The Little Merman - Part 27 The pirates are surprised to see James is now a merman. He says goodbye to his pirate friends and begins his new life as a merman.
On the surface, this part might just seem like a moment in the story when things just move along; however, when I wrote it, I wanted to show Ben’s acceptance of James’ choice to become a merman. He knows this is what James has always wanted. He also understands that his best friend has found a girlfriend, so he won’t see him as much. In this scene, I made sure James assures Ben that he will see him again, because they are still best friends.
It was a challenge to shoot a puppet with a tail. Normally you only see a puppet from the upper half. In this show I explored ways to use the 9x16 format to my advantage. I’m exploring performing puppets from the vertical left and right sides instead of traditionally from the bottom of the screen.
