The Little Merman - Part 9 James the pirate and Mariel the mermaid escape together into the ocean. James’s shark friends will make sure Mariel gets home safely.
In this episode, James successfully returns Mariel to the ocean. He covers his tracks so that no one, even his best friend Ben, suspects anything. I wanted James to deepen his connection with the sharks by asking them to protect Mariel on her way home since he couldn’t. I understood that she could swim home herself, but I wanted James to interact more with the characters in the ocean.
To cover puppeteer arms in the shot, I added a water graphic bar. I tried to just blur the image at the bottom to be less noticeable, but it didn’t work. I hoped the blue wave graphic might be dismissed by the eye like a piece of stage scenery. (I don’t like it)
